Quick way to make your website SEXY!

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

A client of ours recently asked for a bit of advice on an email newsletter they were about to send out to their customers. They have a great newsletter – catchy, pretty and informative. There are also plenty of links back to their website to increase web traffic, it’s all good stuff.

As we were checking the newsletter links for them we noticed one went to a page on their website named “specialsex.html”!!!

Now, once we had stopped our chuckling and put ourselves back on our chairs we clicked the link (purely to check it worked for our client) to find that the link wasn’t in fact a link to a page about “special sex” but a promotional page for special items that were exclusive of GST (“Specials Ex”).

We informed our client that the page name may be mis-interpreted by their customers, and they agreed that although it may get a few laughs, it was probably safer to change the filename. Perhaps a good time to make use of the hyphen (-)!

“Getting number one on Google” gets number 3!

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Hi guys! Funny thing just happened, I typed “getting number one on google” into my google search box and was surprised to see that my SEOMoz / YOUMoz article on how frames based websites are holding strong at the top of Google search results for “website design adelaide” is now ranking number 3!

So incase it’s moved down a few pegs lately, I took this cool screen shot as proof!

Google results for Getting number one on google

Just goes to show the power of blogging / article writing.

Update:

In an interesting twist to this article there are some latest developments! Turns out my article on SEOMoz is no longer number 3, its sad i know, but search engines are fickle creatures. The good news is though - this blog about my article getting 3rd position is now at number 4!

The origional article is no longer in sight but both this article and my article about the SEOMoz article are at number 4 and number 5 in google.. you can see the proof here:

Getting number one on google now number 4

I wonder what will happen next? Only Google can tell…
